Okay, so before you get started on this, there are two things to keep in consideration here:
1) This made for those who are living on a budget (ie: student)
2) This is made such that you'll have enough leftovers to last you a LONG TIME (keep some empty ice-cream containers on hand for freezing these leftovers)
That out of the way, this is a great tasting meal that costs CHEAP (you shouldn't have to spend more than 30bux for all the ingredients), and is more than open to variation. You really only have to add three things to make a decent goulash: elbow macaroni, ground beef, and a few cans of vegetable alphabet soup. That's merely the basis of it, and you can add whatever else you deem tasty enough. For my recipe, if you don't want a whole lot of leftover, I suggest using HALF of what I used. That said, here's the ingredients:
9 cups of water
4-5 cups of Elbow Macaroni
1 can of Diced Tomatoes
1 can of Pasta Sauce
4 cans of vegetable alphabet soup
2 cans of sliced mushrooms
1 can of Tomato Soup (optional, I ended up not using this)
*NOT PICTURED*
1 can of kidney beans
5 Italian sausages
3 1/2 lbs (or roughly 1.5 kg) of ground beef
Alright, so first you want to get all that beef and sausage hot.
So the ground beef shouldn't take any longer than 20 minutes to cook on medium heat through and through, just make sure to stir often. As for the sausage, those will take at least a half hour to cook thoroughly, so make sure it's on medium, turning them over every 5 minutes or so.
Oh, and I was a bit of a dummy and forgot to actually go out and buy a can of kidney beans, however, I remembered I had a bag of dried kidney beans lying around, so I just boiled them in a medium pot for an hour (while everything else was cooking).
Alrighty now. Once your meats are done cooking, reduce the heat, and begin boiling your massive amount of water.
Now throw in those noodles! I didn't have enough elbow mac, so I threw in some spaghetti noodles for good measure.
While your noodles cook, remove the sausages from heat, and dice them up into little bite-sized pieces.
Alrighty, those noodles must be nice and soft by now. Drain 'em out.....
And now time for the fun part! Put the noodles back in the pot, and add the beef as well.
Now the sausage....
..... and now everything else (alphabet soup, mushrooms, diced tomatoes, pasta sauce, & kidney beans). My hand was sore after opening all of those cans :(
Now just let this cook for another 5-10 minutes on low-medium heat stirring thoroughly (you don't want to burn the stuff on bottom). Rest assured that you will make a bit of a mess trying to stir this, as you'll want to start from the bottom, and bring it to the top.
Oh jeez this is a lot of food.
